Pat Butterworth, now retired from private and school violin teaching,
started to play the violin at the age of twelve. At sixteen she was
awarded a Bolton Exhibition to study violin with Endre Wolf at the
Royal Northern College of Music. During this time she played in
orchestras conducted by Sir John Barbirolli and Sir George Weldon
and with English National Opera and the London Junior Orchestra.
For many years she was the leader of the Bolton Youth Orchestra and
has since played for many other orchestras including the Bolton Chamber Orchestra, the Bury Orchestra, the Culcheth Little Orchestra, Oldham Symphony Orchestra and the Northern Baroque.
After music college, Pat went on to a Diploma course at Bolton Art College, transferring to Lancaster Art College to specialise in life painting and sculpture. She has exhibited at local exhibitions and has sold over two hundred paintings through local outlets. Pat continues to play in local operatic societies and orchestras. She also designsand paints stage sets for Saddleworth Musical Society. She was appointed leader of the Ramsbottom Orchestra in 2003.
