Ramsbottom Choral Society & Orchestra

Judith has accompanied Ramsbottom Choral Society for 20 years.
She comes from Billingham Co. Durham and began piano lessons
when 9 years old, passing grade 8 piano examination whilst in the
6th form at Queen Victoria High School, Stockton. Whilst in the 6th form
she began to teach herself the organ.

This was followed by 2 years at St. Katharine’s College, Liverpool
where Judith trained as a teacher and was awarded an organ scholarship enabling her to study with Noel Rawsthorne, at that time organist at Liverpool Cathedral. At the college Judith also accompanied the services in the college chapel.

On completion of teacher training Judith’s scholarship was extended for a further year to enable her to study with William Hardwick at the Northern School of Music (which later amalgamated with the Royal Manchester College of Music to form the Royal Northern College of Music), leading to the award of the diplomas L.R.A.M (Teaching) and A.R.C.M. (Performer).

Judith has taught in various schools, including Leigh Girls Grammar School and Stand Girls Grammar School (where she was head of music). She played the organ at two different churches in East Manchester before moving on to St. George’s Church, Unsworth where she has been organist for 36 years. Currently she is also accompanying services at St. Andrew’s Church, Hillock.

Judith accompanied the C.W.S. Male Voice Choir in Manchester for some years before joining the Ramsbottom Choral Society. Currently she also accompanies the Oldham Community Choir and the Chimera Opera Group, and is often in demand as a freelance accompanist.
