About Us

At Ramsbottom Choral Society and Orchestra we

pride ourselves on the friendliness of our organization.

It is our aim to make new members feel at home from

the very start of their singing or playing with us whether

it is as a permanent member of the choir or orchestra

or as a visiting soloist, singer or instrumentalist.

We have many loyal people in both the choir and orchestra who have been in the society for numerous years and within all our music making some strong, long lasting friendships have been formed.

During our rehearsals we have a short break where tea and coffee are provided. This provides a welcome opportunity to socialise with other members of the choir or orchestra.

One of the highlights of our social calendar happens after the annual Christmas carol concert held in Greenmount United Reformed Church when we have a splendid buffet supper for the choir, orchestra and our families and friends immediately after the carol concert.

Society dinners are organised at local restaurants

  for special occasions.

We support charity events in the area. The society

has sung in special concerts to raise funds for the

local hospices as well as in national fund raising

  events.

Two recent Opera Gala concerts in Bolton where we

sang with six international opera stars as their ‘backing group’ raised several thousand pounds for charity.

As well as inviting other people to sing and play with us for concerts, there is a two way exchange of collaboration as our members are invited to sing in choral events with choirs in the vicinity.

In 2008 a group from the choir visited London to sing in

The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins at the Royal Albert Hall.

The Society performed this exciting work in November

2006 and they enjoyed reliving this experience in such

a special venue.

In December 2006 the choir were invited to sing at the

opening of Tesco’s in Ramsbottom.
